Kalimantan Part 3 - West Kalimantan

Main tourist attraction are The equator that is right above the earth of Pontianak, which is the capital city of West Kalimantan. The equator was pointed by a monument called Tugu Khatulistiwa. All the tourist visited Pontianak will amazed by this 75 years old monument, beside of its uniqueness the tourist interest is to find the zero degree point that divide earth horizontally.

Baning forest are one of tge most visited site of West Kalimantan. This 215acre forest are located at Siantang, this tropical forest are contain of thousands of big and old trees, and lots of rare flower such as the Tropical pitcher plant and some rare orchid.

Karimata archipelago, located 100km west side of Ketapang. This 77.000acre conservation are formed by two big islands of Karimata and Serutu and several little islands. Karimata archipelago can be reach from Pontianak for 18hr by speed boat.Karimata archipelago had the most various ecosystem sea and land. Including the variety of reef and fishes. And some unique endemic wild life.

Bukit Kelam, a 520 acre of tourism park are located at sintang West Kalimantan. The so called Bukit Kelam or dark Hill are shaped like a big black rock. At the top of the hill are natural and exotic caves used by swallows to nest.

The legend says Sebedang Lake was the favorite resting place for the sultan of sambas.Sebedang lake has the most beautiful views of water and the green color the land. This 1km2 lake are surrounded by hills.from Pontianak you can reach it by land. Exotic… very exotic… other must see site are Pantai Pasir Panjang or Long Sand Beach, Beka Hill National Park, Kadriah Palace, Sultan Abdurrahman’s Mosque, Al watzikhoebillah at sambas and bobo robo ritual.

Kalimantan Part 2 - East Kalimantan

One word to describe East Kalimantan “Beaches” a lot of beautiful white sand, warm weather, and nice wave. You can find these beaches at tanjung Batu, Balikpapan, Tarakan, Kutai Kartanegara, Kutai Timur, Penajam Paser Utara and Bulungan.

The art of Kalimantan to see are the traditional dances, Melayu orchestra, Tingkilan Music, Rebana, Hadrah and the existing imported cultural art such as Kuda Kepang, Ludruk, Ketoprak, Wayang Kulit, Barongsai, Kuda Lumping, Sendur, Karawitan, Reog, and Sinden. These beautiful art can be seen anywhere trough out the province. And don’t ever forget to visit the original Dayak Kenyah tribe at Pampang, to enjoy the exotic houses dances, and ritual of Dayak Kenyah tribe. Additional notes : the girls of Dayak Kenyah are the most Beautiful girls in Indonesia besides Bandung’s and Manado’s Girls hahahaha

Besides all the beaches and art of East Kalimantan are the beautiful forest of Batu Ampar, Wanariset and Tanjung Harapan village.

Kalimantan Part 1 - South Kalimantan

South Kalimantan’s Capital city, Banjarmasin had lots of major river and canal, most of the people living above the water, they build their houses with poles stick to the bottom of the rivers, some even living on a raft. The main activity are focused at these river such as the market called pasar terapung or Floating Market due to its transaction are made above water. To enjoy the floating market you have to come early due to its activity start at 05am and end at 09am. You can reach it by Klotok Boat about 30Minute from Banjarmasin

The riverside culture fascinate tourist who visited Banjarmasin. Due to its various river based culture, rafting trough these river had been the most common sightseeing activity of tourist. You can enjoy the views of one of nature’s best at outside the border of the city. Beside rafting, You can enjoy the views trough the Martapura River and Barito River with a Klotok or Speedboat. You can rent it for about Rp.75.000/hr

The river touring package usually start from Mesjid Raya Sabilal Muhtadin to the KUin Market where I lead to the Barito River. Along the way you will pass Pulau Kembang and trough the wood sawing factory at Alalak River and back to the City via Andai River.

Sasaringan is the handmade Batik with South Kalimantan’s style of painting. It was used only by the high society for exorcism ceremony. You can buy it at Banjar timur 20minute from Banjarmasin.

Other site to visit at South Kalimantan are : Lambung Mangkurat’s Museum at Banjar Baru. It collections of the Hindu’s heritage are incredible. Martapura City, are the Diamond processing state of South Kalimantan. You can found lots of handycraft and also travel trough the clear water of the river of Hutan Raya Sultan Adam at Aranio Village.not for from Martapura are the tomb of Syekh Muhammad Arsyad Al Banjari, who spread the teaching of Islam in Kalimantan. Tourist from Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam use to visit this site.

Besides the Martapura’s site you also have to try the Gulai Ikan Haruan at Kandangan or visit the forest of Taman Hutan Pinus, the stalagmites of Goa Batu Hapu,houses made by high poles at Nagara, Mandau of Hadirau, the forest of Kentawan Mountain, the hot spring of Tanuhi, the waterfall of Haratai, Riam anai, or Kilat api. The legend of Tabalong.

The Beaches of South Kalimantan also known for its beauty and exoticism. The sites are : Swarangan beach at Jorong and Batu Lima at Takisung.

Sumatra Part 3 - South Sumatra

The Pempek are the most famous food from South Sumatra, Palembang to be exact. Kerupuk Palembang also known for its delicious taste. South Sumatra had various tourst attraction such as beautiful mountains with numerous flower and wild life, located at kerinci Seblat National Park., rivers, lake, and a long coast line, besides unique and charming culture.

The Natural resource of South Sumatra are : Danau Ranau, Musi Rawas, and Musi Banyu Asin. There are also beaches with great views and white sand such as : Parai Tenggini beach, Matras Beach, Pasir Padi Beach at Belitung. And don’t forget to visit the waterfall site at Muara Enim and Lahat. At cultural side you can visit : Bukit Serelo, Dempo mountain, Rumah Limas, and the isolated tribe of Anak Dalam and Kubu. There is also the remains of Sriwijaya Kingdom, like : ancient stone, old statue, palembang’s museum, the cemetery of Bukit Siguntang and the fort of Kuto Besak.

A must see site when you visit South Sumatra are the Great Mosque of Palembang, located at the center city are the heritage of Kesultanan Palembang build by Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I or Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jaya Wikramo at 1738 to 1748.

The untouched nature of Sumatra can be enjoy by visiting the virgin forest of Musirawas. The exotic forest, lake and river are untouched by human hand, and will stay that way. Because the local government would like to keep the forest as national park.

Sumatra Part 2 - West Sumatra

Ranah Minang or The Land Of Minang, are one of the most visited Province of Sumatra, the main tourist attractions are the exotic cultural art, beautiful nature and historical site.

Singkarak Lake
It is the largest lake in West Sumatra with 21km Long, it is located at the side of Padang Panjang –Solok Road. Lots of resting place build around the lake to enjoy the spicy padangs food also to relaxing and to enjoy the water activity such as canoeing with so called sampan, and small boat, with a beautiful views of nature you can enjoy.

Maninjau Lake
A beautiful lake to visit, located 36km from Bukittinggi, the road to Maninjau Lake is called kelok 44 (44 turns) or kelok ampek-ampek. This is called so because of the many turns had to passed due to reach Danau Maninjau.

Upper Lake and Down side Lake
Both of the lake are called Danau Kembar, or the Twin Lake. Both of the lake are located at Pasar Simpang Village, 56km from Padang. The uniqueness of the Twin Lake are, to get to the Upper lake the road is downhill, and to get to the Down Side Lake the road are climbing.

Jam Gadang (The Big clock)
A tall tower that rise gloriously, with a unique Minangkabau roof, located at the central of Bukittinggi. Jam Gadang is the landmark and symbol of Bukittinggi. Build at the top of Kandang kerbau Hill. At the Netherlands government at the time they colonize Indonesia.

From the top of the tower you can see the beautiful scenery of Bukittinggi such as : Merapi Mountain, Singgalang Mountain, Sago Mountain, and Ngarai Sianok. Jam Gadang also useful for the people to show time, the uniqueness of Jam Gadang are the number 4, it is written IIII

De Kock Fort
The fort was build in the top of Bukittinggi city. Around the fort, you can see the canon used by Imam Bonjol when fighting against the Holland troops.this place is the most perfect place to enjoy the sunset.

Tri Arga Building/Bung Hatta’s Palace
This building who is located at Bukittinggi was a central of Indonesian temporary government office back in 1947. this is coused by the Holland aggression. In memoriam of the proclamation speaker Bung Hatta, the Tri Arga building was renamed to Bung Hatta Palace

Japanese tunnel (cave)
A tunnel 1.400m long and 2m wide, that has lot of turns, made by the Japanese soldier in 1942. it is located at the center of panorama park at Ngarai Sianok. Under the city of Bukittinggi. In the tunnel there are office room, hospital, food and armory.at the entrance of the tunnel are at several places, Ngarai Sianok, Panorama, the Bung Hatta Palace, and at the Bukittinggi zoo. The locals called it Lobang Jepang or the Japanese hole.

Sumatra Part 1 - North Sumatra

North Sumatra has numerous tourist attractions. In the recent years 2003 to be exact, the government has prepared this territory for Asean Free Trade Area.including the potential tourism site. There two gateways to go to North Sumatra, they are, Polonia Airport, and Belawan harbor.
The main tourist attractions of North Sumatra are

Toba Lake
A vulkanik lake with 100 Km long, and 30 Km wide. In the middle of the lake there is an island named Samosir. Toba lake is famous for its lovely views. Every year people of Batak, held a festival called The Toba Lake festival. This year, the festival held trough out 7-11th of October, placed at Parapat Tourism City. The festival provide the exhibition of culture, accessories, dances, and don’t forget food. There is also a decorated boat festival competing for the governor’s trophy.

Other activities at Toba Lake festival are : decorated boat festival, decorated store, fishing competition, child activity competition, Parapat touring. There are also the exhibition of local dances, sculpture, garment art called tenun.

When you visiting to toba lake you also have to go to Tomok, at Samosir island, it can be reach by motorboat, for about 45 minutes ride. At the Raja Sidabutars yards you can find Sigale-gale shows which is a dancing doll made from wood..

Berastagi
Berastagi is the main tourist attraction in Tanah Karo, it is located at 4.594 feet above the sea level, and surrounded by mountains. Berastagi has a cool weather from the wide of beautiful farm fields. Berastagi has the most complete facility such as Hotels, restaurant, golf and all of it can be enjoyed at affordable price.

From this Lovely city of passion Fruit and sweet oranges, You can enjoy the A beautiful views of active volcanos which is Sibayak and Sinabung Mountain. And to enjoy its virgin jungle you just have to walk for about 3-4 hours.

Berastagi also famous for its vegetables and flowers. Every year the people held a festival called flower and fruits festival. And also a culture festival called Mejuah-juah.

Medan
As a central of trades, since the beginning Medan has a plural ethnical, and religious people these are seen by the cultural variations, such as tribes, dances, musical instrument foods, and houses. These contribute to the variety of medan culture and tourism.

Tourist attraction in medan are : Istana Maimon, Tugu Guru Patimpus, Tjong A Fie, Museum Bukit Barisan, Tugu Jendral Ahmad Yani, Taman Budaya Medan, Medan Zoo, Rahmat Wild Life Museum & Gallery, Siombak Lake, Merdeka Walk, Mora Indah and lots more.
